MANIFESTING: BE YOUR OWN HERO

According to Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of resolution is
“the act of resolving; the act of answer: solving; the act of determining.”

I find this word hard to hear at this time of year. There is too much emphasis on “fixing” or “answering” problems or issues from the previous year and less energy to create and sustain habits that carry over for months, years, and a lifetime ahead. So what makes us feel like “resolutions” are needed when there is a new year? Why do we feel so guilty? Life is about working towards balance in all that we do, whether it be finding a work/life balance, balance in mind/body/soul, balance in our nutrition, or balance in our workouts. In my opinion, balance is key to longevity, health, and confidence. When we are working towards equilibrium, there is no need for solving. Why take away from our lives when we can add?

As you enter 2022, I challenge you to write down what you believe brings balance to your life. Reflect on what makes you happy, grounded, healthy, dialed in, and consistent. Then determine what prevents you from achieving these things. You do not have to go on a fad diet, extreme workout challenge, or tell yourself that you need to become some newer, better version of yourself.

If you look at what brings you joy and use it as a tool to create habits that are consistent and easy to sustain, then you can build your equilibrium. Maybe this looks like choosing a workout that you are excited about and look forward to. The question should not be: “What will make me lose weight?” Instead, ask yourself, “what makes me feel good inside and out consistently?”  Maybe what creates consistency looks like creating an atmosphere and a situation with no fuss.

Do you want to be more active?

Assess your activity level for the day and time of day. Maybe it means laying out your clothes the night before, placing your equipment in its exact spot, so you are ready to go when you get out of bed. Maybe it means putting on your workout clothes before bed to provide you with as little preparation as possible. These are ways of creating a sustainable habit for you and your situation.

Here is the thing, life will always happen.

We will get busy.

Work will take our time.

Our kids will need us.

Our partners and family will rely on us.

So there will always be a reason to skip out on ourselves. But, suppose we map out our schedule and create our habits based on what is available and doable for ourselves, the sustainability is greater. The reach towards equilibrium is much more attainable.

I will never give you advice that I do not follow or use for myself. In 2020, I became a mom, and I will be honest, I spent the rest of 2020 and most of 2021 trying to figure out how I can still be an entrepreneur, a teacher, a coach, a friend, a wife, and an individual as well. I cried a lot, especially when I felt defeated, but I also realized that I am the only person that can create time for myself. I am the only person that can set boundaries. No one can come and do this for me. I am my hero, and as silly as that sounds, it is 100% true. I will always be a mom first. That is something that I realized this year, and although it took me a while, I am fully embracing it. I love it, and I also love that I can be so many other things simultaneously.

I still have many different parts, and to ensure that I can have a healthy balance, I have to manifest and put into action what I need to find my equilibrium. There are days/times that I will not budge on when it comes to time with my daughter or time with my husband, but there are also times that I have made sacred for my business and my well-being. These facets of who I am, make me whole. I cannot be the best mother without being the best individual. I cannot be the best instructor and guide if I am not 100% dialed in to being a mom when I need to be. The only way to thrive is to set realistic expectations, boundaries, schedules, and goals for myself and all my parts. When I began to assess what I needed to be happy in my own life and identity, I realized that it was not about taking away anything. I needed to make room and set a sustainable schedule.

Maybe for you, drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning, and staying consistent with that, means leaving the glass on your nightstand by your alarm, ready for you when you wake up. Maybe meditating daily means laying your mat at the foot of your bed, ready for you when you wake up. Maybe taking 20 minutes for yourself at the end of the day is creating a habit with your kids/partner/family of eating, showering, and going to bed by a specific time to facilitate this. Maybe exercising regularly and feeling the results means finding a type of workout, a time, a place, and even a partner in crime that will motivate you. All of this is not possible if we are not intrinsically inspired to “add” these habits into our lives. It starts from within us. No one can be our hero. Remember the quote, “She believed she could, so she did”? That is precisely what this means. You are your inspiration. You got it, and you have the power to make it happen.

As you enter 2022, manifest your reason why.
Create habits based on what your vision of balance is. I promise you that you will feel much more motivated, much more connected, and much more like yourself. A new year is not about making changes to who you are. You can add, and when you add, the magic of what makes you is only shining brighter and more authentic. Do not forget to be your hero.

With Love,
Mariam
